Adrian Carey Charity Trek
Well I managed it!
The GR20, known as “the toughest waymarked route in the world” certainly lived up to its reputation. I found it brutal in many ways, the steep ascents and descents, often over very difficult wet terrain including endless boulder fields, the 18kg rucksack, the camping, frequent thunderstorms, freezing showers and squat loos all combined to make it a considerable physical and mental challenge. These challenges were compensated by two weeks of stunning mountain scenery, soaring rocky pinnacles and the thunderous waterfalls.
Alan Hall proved to be an excellent companion, giving me much valuable advice, particularly climbing down steep routes that resembled waterfalls. We had a great time. Thanks to all the generous contributions for our nominated charity, UCare. With your help we have managed to raise in excess of £2,500, which is fantastic.

Thank you again,
Adrian Carey
Villager Adrian Carey of Oaksmere will be setting off on 6th June 2010 travelling to Corsica with a friend to tackle a trek called “GR20” in an attempt to raise money for Urology Cancer Research and Education (UCARE).
The trek is expected to take 14 days and they will encounter heat and snow. This will be an unsupported journey – thus they will have full rucksacks.
The aim of UCARE is to improve the treatment and care of patients fighting cancers such as prostrate, testicular, kidney and bladder cancers which now represent 20% of newly diagnosed cancers.
Adrian said: “All the donations made via www.justgiving.com/Adrian-CareyGR20 will go towards UCARE. Please do support this very worthwhile cause and, if you want more information, please do not hesitate to contact me either by email adrian.carey@btinternet.com or phone 01865 864973."
