Entry Details
ENTRY DETAILS
Eligibility
All classes are open to members of the Appleton & Eaton Gardening Club and to residents of Appleton, Eaton, Besselsleigh, Fyfield and Tubney.
All exhibits, horticultural or otherwise, must have been grown by or be the unaided work of exhibitors (other than materials used in the Floral Art section) and not previously shown at the Appleton Show.
Exhibitors may make one entry per class only.
Classes 1 to 77 are open to all ages. Entries from children are particularly welcome, though in these classes they will be judged equally with the other entries. Children's classes 78-80 are judged according to age.
Rules of the Show
Entry forms and fees: should be delivered to the Show Secretary, John Page, 27 Badswell Lane, Appleton by 9 pm on Wednesday 1st September 2010. Late entries will not be accepted.
Staging of Exhibits: All exhibits must be staged between 8.30 am & 10.30 am on the day of the Show. Exhibitors must supply all vases, stands, etc.
Exhibits must be staged in accordance with the Notes on the Display of Exhibits stated below.
At 10.30 am the hall will be cleared for judging.
Judging: Judges are appointed by the Committee of the Appleton & Eaton Gardening Club. Judging will be conducted in line with the Royal Horticultural Society’s show rules and those of other societies where applicable. Points are awarded 5 for 1st place, 3 for 2nd place and 1 for 3rd place. The judges reserve the right to withhold any award if the entries are considered undeserving.
Trophies and prizes: Trophies and children’s prizes will be presented at 3.30 pm. Trophies will be held for one year only and custody of each trophy is the responsibility of the holder who should return it to the Secretary (cleaned please!) by two weeks before the 2011 Show.
Removal of exhibits: No exhibits may be removed before the presentation of trophies. Exhibits left after the presentation will be auctioned.
General: The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry. The Committee will take all reasonable care of exhibits, but cannot be held responsible for damage or loss however caused.

TROPHIES
The PRESIDENT’S CUP (presented by the late Dr Harold Gunson) – for the best Show all–rounder – the exhibitor with the highest points who has entered at least four of the six main sections in the Show, and has obtained points in at least three of them. Other Horticultural Classes are not a separate section for this purpose.
The previous two years' winners are not eligible. (2009: not awarded)
The BANKSIAN MEDAL (granted by the Royal Horticultural Society) – the exhibitor who obtains the highest number of points in classes 3 to 49. The previous two years’ winners are not eligible. (2009: Robert Longstaff)
The CHALLENGE SHIELD – the best exhibit in the show from classes 1 to 49, excluding classes 1,2 and 23. (2009: John Page)
The ROWELL CUP – the highest points for any 10 exhibits in the horticultural classes 1 to 30 (2009: Derek Chapple)
The ROWELL MEMORIAL CHALLENGE CUP – for winning Class 1, collection of vegetables (2009: Peter Edgington)
The NOVICE SHIELD – for winning Class 2, collection of vegetables (2009: Yvonne Longstaff)
The CHALLENGE CUP – the highest points for any 7 exhibits in flower classes 31 to 49 (2009: Derek Chapple)
The CHALLENGE TANKARD - the best pot plant from classes 45 to 49 (2009: Peter Edgington)
The ART AND HANDICRAFT QUAICH - the best exhibit from classes 52 to 54. (2009: Ann Chapple)
The FLORAL ART TRAY – the highest points for any 3 exhibits in classes 55 to 60. (2009: Penny Moorley).
The MARY RANDALL ROSE BOWL - the best floral art exhibit from classes 55 to 60 (2009: Penny Moorley) .

The LADIES CHALLENGE CUP – the highest points for any 6 exhibits in Cookery classes 61 to 71 (2009: Ann Chapple). Also open to men!!
The ANNE DYMOCK CUP - for winning Class 61, cake to given recipe (2009: Alice Parker)
The ANNIE ENOCH ROSE BOWL – for winning Class 62, Victoria sandwich cake (2009: Cordelia Parker)
The PHOTOGRAPHY CHALICE – the most points in Photography classes 72 to 77 (2009: Corinne Weaver)
THE COMPOST BUCKET – for winning class 50 (2009: Elizabeth Woodin)
The YOUNG GARDENER’S TROPHY – the best entry in any of the classes 1-44 by an exhibitor under 15 on 5th Sept. 2010 (2009: Rochelle Eastgate)
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
Prize money will be awarded in the children’s classes as follows: 1st prize £2, 2nd prize £1.50p, and 3rd prize £1.00.
Children’s Classes are open to all children who are under 15 on 5th September 2010. Age will be taken into consideration by the judges. Because of this, all entries must be the sole work of the exhibitor, however young.
78. Display a seaside photograph you have taken (maximum 7" x 5"/18cm x 13cm)
79. Make and decorate 3 cup cakes (age 5 and under decorate only - can be cakes bought or made by a parent.
80. Make a flower arrangement in a cup and saucer.
The Young Gardener of the Year Award will be made to the best entry in any of the classes 1 to 44 by an exhibitor who is under 15 on 5th September 2010. There will be no separate children’s growing classes this year, but all children are encouraged to enter the adult horticultural classes.

| Photography classes | Photographs may be colour or black and white and digital or conventional – minimum size 6" by 4"/15cm x 10cm, maximum 7" by 5"/18cm x 13cm, unframed. They should be mounted with bluetak (provided) and not with double sided adhesive tape. |
Exhibitors are reminded that an entry which has been exhibited at a previous Appleton Show is ineligible to be entered again, whether it previously won or not.
