Please note CURRENT MALTHOUSE SURGERY DETAILS CAN BE FOUND ON http://www.appletonwitheaton.org.uk/surgery
An analysis of the Appraisal questionnaire showed that the majority of people are registered with the Doctor from the Malthouse Surgery in Abingdon. This is the only medical practice to have a surgery in Appleton. It is held twice weekly in the Village Hall:
- Monday 09.00 to 10.00 hours
- Friday 16.30 to 18.00 hours
Up until 1978 surgeries used to be held in the outbuildings of The Plough Public House - where the waiting area had ivy growing on the inside of the wall! It was a very cold and damp place to wait in. Conditions improved a great deal when the surgery moved to the Village Hall in 1978, and improved even more when the hall was rebuilt after the fire.
Quite a number of people are registered at the Botley Medical Centre. Others seek medical help further afield.
Obviously, those who have the greatest difficulty in getting to hospital, dental or chiropody appointments are the elderly who have no means of transport apart from the infrequent buses. It would be good if we could get a visiting chiropodist, for this was the area where most difficulty was experienced.
