Highways
HIGHWAYS
From time to time the matter of traffic calming schemes is raised for Netherton Road, Eaton Road, Oaksmere and Badswell Lane. 44% of those who replied to the questionnaire were in favour of some way of cutting down speed, but the majority obviously felt that such measures would spoil the rural aspect of the village. Unfortunately, when the police have set up speed traps, the majority of the offenders are local inhabitants! Apart from this aspect of the problem, when asked for their opinion, the ambulance and fire services are quite against any chicanes or ‘sleeping policemen’ on the grounds that they would be delayed in reaching their destination.
SLOW signs have been painted on the two bends in Eaton Road - by the Thatched Tavern and the Manor pond - to try to control the speed of people driving in the centre of the village.
