27th September 2010: Church wins rounders! Congratulations and many thanks to the Appleton Playground Team for staging such a great event at the Appleton Sportsfield on Sunday afternoon. Your continued hard work and enthusiasm is an inspiration to us all! And special congratulations to all the members of the Church Team who beat off gruelling opposition to win the Rounders trophy! I'm so sorry I wasn't able to stay and cheer you on to the end as Harvest Festival at Besselsleigh beckoned and I haven't yet mastered the art of being in two places at the same time ... but well done to one and all - and to everyone who organised and participated as the Olympiad arrived in Appleton! Lyn - St. Laurence Church.

23rd September 2010 Report and remove white powder! Message from Appleton's Neighbourhood Watch: A recent Community Messaging message mentioned a crude method by which homes that were potential targets for thieves were being marked - the "plant-pot" method. Here in Appleton there may be another, slightly more subtle method in use. I have seen small piles of white powder (that appears to be just flour) outside certain houses in Eaton Road. These markers are usually at the base of a nearby telegraph pole, but where none is available the mark is more prominent - in two cases in the form of arrows. The house numbers I have noted are: 106, 102, 78, 72, 64 (arrow), 58, 60, 40, 34 (two arrows) and the almshouses. I tried knocking at doors but without success. I suggest that Appleton residents make a point of looking for any unusual signs such as these and removing them immediately, and making neighbours aware of this possible threat. Please spread the word.Keith Stammers: Appleton Neighbourhood Watch

2nd September 2010: US Radio features Appleton Comunity Shop! In an email from Vicki Barker to Carol Bateman' Sent on Thursday, 2nd September 2010 on the Subject: NPR Feature about Appleton Community Store

Dear Carol-- It ran on Morning Edition this morning (the equivalent of the Today Programme)! My only regret is that a soundbite from Claire Salmonhad to be taken out for lack of time -- please tell her how much I enjoyed talking with her; I drew on the community plan document in the piece. Here's a link: NPR Appleton's story …If for any reason that doesn't work, go to www.npr.org... in the 'programs' menu at the top, choose Morning Edition… then choose the 2 September programme… the piece ran in the 2nd half of the programme. Again, thank you so much for your time, last week. It was such a pleasure to meet all of you, and so inspiring to see how the people of Appleton have banded together to preserve… and strengthen their community. THis is one social phenomenon I really hope goes 'viral!' I may yet return to the store, as a customer: my partner & I have already travelled the length of the Thames once in our tiny (17') boat -- and we fully intend to repeat the exercise! all best, Vicki
