Churchill Fellowships

Churchill Fellowships

I wanted to let viewers of the website know that I have been re-elected (2011/2012) as Chairman of our Regional Association of Churchill Fellows which covers Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire. About 100 Fellowships are awarded each year from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust fund set up with donations given in memory of Winston Churchill in 1965. If anyone would like to know more about Churchill Fellowships and how they can apply, I would be very happy to tell them (alison@strugnell.free-online.co.uk)  or they can go to the Trust's website www.wcmt.org.uk

The Travelling Fellowships give people the opportunity of a lifetime to follow a particular interest they might have, either in their working life or at home. There is no age limit and no particular qualifications are required - only an enthusiasm about their interest and a desire to make a difference to themselves and the community they live or work in.

The Associations exist to keep Fellows in touch with others in their region as well as to give advice and encouragement to new Fellows. For my Fellowship in 1998, I went to Malawi to study the flora of a large mountain in the south of the country. This involved making three sorties up the mountain staying in mountain huts, porters to carry the equipment and collecting plants for further study and documentation.
