Fire & Rescue Service Thanks

To the Residents of Appleton Village                                                                          28th April 2010

Dear Residents,

Re:       Neighbourhood Support

On behalf of the Oxfordshire County Fire and Rescue Service, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your support and community spirit during the fire in January 2010.

Over 100 firefighters attended the incident and worked hard during the inclement weather to save as much of the property as practically possible. Our role was made much easier due to the admirable actions and support of the residents of Appleton not only towards the owner and family of the affected property, but also in relation to opening the village hall to provide us with a warm place, welcome drink and an opportunity to have a period of rest.

My Deputy Chief Officer David Etheridge who commanded the incident, was incredibly complimentary of the way the community came together and spoke of witnessing acts of kindness and consideration rarely seen at incidents he has attended in the past.

I would be very grateful if you could display this framed letter in a prominent place in your village store as our way of saying a public thank you to all the residents of Appleton for their support.

Yours sincerely,

John Parry                                                                    Councillor Judith Heathcoate
Director for Community Safety &                                 Cabinet Member for Safer and
Shared Services and Chief Fire Officer                          Stronger Communities
