PC Carl Bryant and I visited Appleton School for a safer roads multi agency meeting to discuss how we can work together in making the school area a safer place especially when the children are coming to and leaving school.
Neighbourhood Priorities
Your Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) is in the process of re-engaging with our communities to identify three new priorities. This is ongoing and the NAG have conducted postal surveys all the information is being collated and new priorities will be set from the information gained the NAG have been putting in a lot of effort to make this work and there has been a very good response: thank you to all involved. If you would like to become involved with your NAG and help to solve local issues, please contact your neighbourhood team on 08458 505 505.
Good news stories
We are now launching “Have your say” meetings which will replace the surgeries so if there are any police issues that you would like to discuss with us please come along and we will advise and assist you were possible. The dates in Appleton Village Hall are: -
- Tuesday 23rd February at 5pm-7pm
- Saturday 3rd April 2pm-4pm
I will also be at the Baptist church in Botley (Wesminster Way) Saturday 10am – 12pm 27th February
Patrols of hotspot areas of antisocial behaviour, are continuing and this is particularly important during the dark evenings. Please can I urge everyone to call us on the non emergency number, 0845 8 505 505, if you have any concerns. Overall, anti-social behaviour and crime in general remains low in the rural Abingdon area
For more information about your local neighbourhood team, contact 08458 505 505 or visit www.thamesvalley.police.uk If you would like to discuss anything with me please contact me on 0845 8 505 505 or lisa.prime@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk

I visited Appleton School on Tuesday morning, with my colleague Laura Schmid to deliver a Halloween and fire safety talk to year 6. We discussed the importance of keeping safe, staying with/near responsible adults, not going into homes alone, only going to residents they know. Also to respect others wishes, some people do not celebrate either, some may be vulnerable and/or frightened for various reasons etc.
With regards to fireworks we discussed the safety aspect of never handling fire works or going near, only adults also the legal implications of handling fireworks, harassing people that do not want to be visited at Halloween and criminal damage to property etc. The children engaged with us and had a lot of really great things to say so thank you year 6, I hope that you enjoyed your information packs, including the sweet treats!
May I please remind all parents/adults dropping off and collecting children from school to park responsibly and keep the safety of the children in mind. I understand parking is an issue in any area where there is a school, however leaving 5 minutes earlier, parking a little further away and walking or cycling will reduce the volume of traffic, making it safer for passing vehicles and pedestrians crossing the road. Random visit spot checks will take place at these times.
I continue with my patrol of Appleton and enjoy speaking to many residents I see. If you have any suggestions, ideas or concerns please contact me. I will be holding another surgery in Appleton soon, last time I had the trailer at the village hall proved successful; I will inform you of the date.
Kind regards
