Neighbourhood Action Group

Notes of a Meeting on Tuesday the 30th March 2010

Agenda items

Police issues; The police representatives had little to report except, as usual, that crime in our area is low. The Thames valley Police have an established system of rewarding staff for outstanding performance, which can be influenced by the public. If we feel that we are receiving outstanding service from our PCs and PCSOs, for example, we can submit our views on a form downloadable from their website. The more "votes" a person receives, the more likely that person will be short-listed for an award. http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/newsevents/newsevents-events/newsevent...

Appleton Environmental Visual Audit. The audit took place on the 19th March with fewer people than expected as one Member had broken his leg and others were not available. The NAG Chairman expressed his pleasure at viewing our generally attractive village that has no obvious, chronic problems. A Village Consultation exercise for Appleton was proposed when the results of current consultations have been fully analysed.

Pot holes A new contract is being let with the inclusion of Quality Control: payment for work will be made only if it is found to be satisfactory.

Inconsiderate-Parking Notices There was general agreement that these notices could be a valuable tool as an informal means of making inconsiderate parkers aware of the problems that they can cause. The idea has been discussed already in Appleton with regard to school parent parking.

Dog Fouling This continues to be a problem in many areas. The Vale has implemented an "Envirocrime" strategy that includes dog fouling. The website http://www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/environmental_health/fly-tipping_litter_a... gives more information

Community Payback This is a process whereby youth offenders perform work in the local society. All the feedback from neighbourhoods where it has been implemented have been good and we are encouraged to find suitable projects in Appleton. There is a DVD that the PC can borrow that shows details of the scheme in action. Materials an toilet facilities must be provided, of course.

New Members There is a need for members of the NAG who would represent the communities youth. In particular, we need 14-16 year-olds.

Next meeting Monday the 17th. May at Kennington, then at Appleton on Wednesday the 30th. June. Venues for September and October are still needed.
