Rogue Traders and Doorstep Selling
Difficult economic times always produce an increase in scams of one kind or another and doorstep selling is an easy one for the more dubious entrepreneur. It is good practice to be aware of how one can avoid being troubled by such rogues and the Oxfordshire County Council website has some very good advice, not only for avoiding the criminals but how to find approved traders.
If you would like to browse the website, try this:
Click on "Business" at the bottom left of the screen.
Under "Trading standards", click on "Doorstep crime" then "Find out more"
Alternatively, if you can spare only a few milliseconds, use the following link directly: Oxfordshire County Council Rogue Traders
The page contains a useful "No Cold-Callers" label that you can print out and attach to your door along with a matching label for the inside of the door with the 'phone number of Trading Standards. There is also a short video of the Police on a Trading Standards mission - for those with ultra-fast broadband.
Approved Traders
Not all traders are rogues, I'm told, and the following link contains an A-to-Z list that might help you in selecting a variety of tradesmen Oxfordshire County Council Approved Traders
