Parliamentary Constituency
Parliamentary Constituency
When the General Election is declared, Appleton with Eaton will no longer be in the Wantage constituency but in Oxford West and Abingdon. This boundary change ‘came into force on June 27th 2007. The new constituencies will come into being at the next general election; by-elections before then will use the current boundaries.’ (Govt. Dept. of Information Services) It is this delayed introduction of the boundary changes that has caused some confusion.
Oxford West and Abingdon is one of 6 parliamentary constituencies in Oxfordshire, and spreads from Carfax in the centre of Oxford to Appleton and Besselsleigh, also taking in Yarnton from Witney constituency. We will therefore shift from being a largely rural constituency to one with a mix of student, city, town and village.
The next General Election will be held, at the latest, by 3rd June 2010. To ensure you have your say you will need to be registered to vote. See www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk or call 01235 540310 for details.
