Club sessions: Important
1 As a club we are very keen to encourage our teenage members to continue playing, despite the alternative attractions of schoolwork and exams ( and not just because we want them on the teams!).
For a few years we have blocked out Friday evenings after the junior coaching as a junior club night. But use of this slot has been variable to minimal and it’s frustrating to members of all ages not to be able to book courts at such a prime time.
It’s been suggested that some of our stronger teenage players would welcome being able to play adult members ( parents or other members) so we are going to experiment with keeping the Fridays nights as junior night but to include adults by invitation.
We hope this move will be welcomed and enable more of our talented juniors to enjoy tennis of an appropriate standard. We will run this for a trial period but If there is no appetite for the junior club night we will make the courts available for booking in the normal way.
2 The recent questionnaire circulated asked whether members would be interested in another club session on a weekday. If you are interested in a club session on a Thursday from 1.00 to 3.00 please contact Alice on parkers.appleton@btinternet .com and she will put members in contact with each other.
Not renewed yet? Please do so, to enjoy all the club has to offer, to be able to enter the tournaments, be eligible for the Wimbledon draw, enjoy coaching at members’ rates and be involved in the exciting future of the Club. Contact Libby Willett on 864691 to renew your membership.
The winter leagues have now finished: Mens A came 5 out 12 in Division 2, Mens B 6th out of 13 in Divsion 5 and Ladies (clearly benefitting from their coaching by Andy Aitken who is doing the adult coaching this year) triumphed, won all their games, finishing top of Division 6 and being promoted for the next season. Many thanks to the Captains, Duncan Todd, David Helson and Vicki Jack.
Coaching – the coaching for juniors on Fridays is now full but there are still some places for adults/older juniors on the Wednesday evenings from 9 June. Please contact Jane Bowen Morris on 862685
NB for the six weeks of the Wednesday night coaching, club night will be on Mondays – have Wednesdays always been impossible for you and Mondays better? Come along and join us.
