27th October 2010: WAG News — Northmoor Weir It is now almost three months since the EA proposed the possibility of setting up a trust to operate Northmoor Weir. WAG agreed to investigate the possibility of setting up such a trust and requested further information from the EA as to what would be involved. WAG has received nothing from the EA, despite multiple requests. We are pleased that new lightweight paddles and rymers are being tested at the weir; WAG has requested that the Health and Safety issues, originally put forward as the primary reason for changing the weir, be reassessed to take account of this. If any relevant information is forthcoming WAG will, of course, ask for the village’s opinion before making a response. Nick Withers Chair, Weir Action Group

12th October 2010: Annie Blake thanks friends in the Parish. "Thank you so much to everyone that helped me raise money for ChildReach International over the past year. The money raised from the jumble sale, garden tea party and generous donations contributed hugely towards the £2,300 that I raised for the charity, I couldn't have done it without so much support from the village. While in Africa I visited the school that the money went towards improving, and I met the children and saw what a dramatic impact the new school has had on their lives. The trek up Mount Kilimanjaro was such an amazing experience and I am thrilled to have made it to the top. Again, I couldn't have done it without the generosity of various villagers that lent me so much equipment! Thank you all so much". Annie Blake
11th October 2010: Mrs Tian Davidson appointed Clerk to the Parish Council: The parish council wish to announce the appointment of Mrs Tian Davidson as the new clerk for Appleton with Eaton. Claire Salmon (Chairman) said she would like to take this opportunity of welcoming Tian to the role of Clerk and that she and her fellow councillors look forward to working with her. Email contact details will remain the same for the present appletonwitheaton@tiscali.co.uk but will shortly be changing, details of which will be available soon. Claire also offered her thanks to Mrs Jane Dymock for all her hard work as clerk for the last 8 years, and for her continued help in a care taking role for the last 2 months.
5th October 2010: Richard and Teresa complete Coast to Coast. Brother and Sister Challenge. Mission Completed - on the 6th August 2010 "Richard and I completed our Coast to Coast walk, taking 12.5 days to complete the 190 mile walk. We started on the west coast at St. Bees and ended in Robin Hoods Bay on the east side having dipped our boots in both the Irish and North sea. On average we walked between 15 - 27 miles a day which doesn't sound much on its own but walking continuously over a period of 12 days did prove to be challenging on a number of occasions. Wootton and Bassett (our friendly H4H mascots) made a great support team and helped us raise the grand total of £1,400 for our charity Help for Heroes. A massive thank thank you to all of you who sponsored us helping to make a difference for our 2010 heroes". Teresa & Richard Griffiths
