We are 85 this year and celebrated in March 2011 with a Dinner at Frilford Heath Golf & Country Club. We think, apart from the Bell Ringers, that we are oldest organisation in the village
At present we have 47 members and meet in Appleton Village Hall on the 3rd Thursday in the month at 7.30 p.m. New members and visitors are always welcome. We belong to the National Federation of Women’s Institutes with over 250,000 members throughout England and Wales. We have close ties with other W.I.’s nearby, belonging to Matthew Arnold Group and Oxfordshire Federation of Women’s Institutes which is based in Tackley.
During the year we organise Coach Outings, a Weekend Holiday, Theatre Trips, Lunches and sometimes a Ramble. During the winter we organise an Art club which everyone is welcome to join. Hopefully there is something for everyone.
Raising funds for charities is also one of our aims and we are always ready to help in village events.
Our aim is always to make our Institute a place to make friends, enjoy a range of speakers on all topics at our meetings and most of all to be part of village life. We hope we are not just a club for “old folk who make jam”.
Our secretary is: Myrtle Salmon who can be contacted for further information on 01865 862477
